What if their was hope for me

One of my favorite things about our recent time in South Africa was creating a portrait of the children and then giving them a print. Watching them giggle and smile, run over to their friend and show it to them. I wondered if perhaps it was there first photo they have ever gotten of themselves. What if that is the only photo of their childhood that they will ever get? Perhaps i thought, it will give them even the smallest glimmer of hope.

In this day and age, with a camera in almost every pocket and purse and a never ending stream of photos on Facebook, it seems that the value of a photo has been lost. But imagine if you didn’t have any photos of your childhood, or if you couldn’t take any photos of your own children. We all love sitting around looking at old photos and laughing at how silly we looked. But what if we didn’t have that?
