life bursting forth.

one of the best things about spring is how the greens push their way out of the dirt and burst into vibrant life. i look forward to it every year and this year was no exception. so when i saw that it was happening, i was so excited to create some photos of it.. and it just so happened that the pink blossoms are starting to fall off the tree right above. beautiful.

damp earth and new life.. color and sunshine.. spring is a beautiful thing. here’s the catch.. it’s still winter! i think north carolina has it’s seasons mixed up. but i’ll just enjoy it as it comes. yesterday i sat out by the pool for awhile drinking passion iced tea and feeling the sunshine and it made me very excited about when i can splash into the water! i felt the water and almost hollered, it’s still freezing. maybe not just yet… =}

“..he dawns on them like the morning light, like the sun shining forth on a cloudless morning, like rain that makes grass to sprout from the earth.” 2 Samuel 23:4

maybe that’s one reason we love spring so much. because it’s somewhere we can see and feel traces of God. dawning upon us like light.. refreshing us like the rain. making us beautiful.
soak it up. enjoy every flower. feel the sun on your face. listen to the rain. and be in love with the one who is making it all beautiful..

when a bear bakes a cake..

.. he throws it in the lake!
well, thankfully mine didn’t turn out quite like the bear in the book: When a Bear Bakes a Cake. that was one of my favorite children’s books growing up and i just couldn’t resist. =}

almond poppyseed bundt cake. it’s one of my favorite cakes.. which is nice because its one of the only ones i can really make. i’m definitely more of a chef than a baker but maybe someday i’ll expand my kitchen horizons. the cake was delicious by the way! with an orange glaze.. yummy.
ps. the last photo is also my my photo of the day so there won’t be a separate post for that today.
what are your favorite things to make in the kitchen?

project 365: days 55-57

i haven’t posted for a couple days, so i’m catching up! this was my photo of the day from saturday. it was a bouquet i bought for a valentines party i had.. and it kept lasting and lasting so beautifully! this was after it was already a week old. isn’t it beautiful?
and somehow i didn’t take a single photo on sunday. again. i’ve done this twice already and it makes me really sad!

i love trees. so much. they captivate me. and this is one of my absolute favorite trees. i call it “my” tree. it’s actually two trees, twisting into one. i pass it every time i drive to my parents house and yesterday morning i finally stopped and created some photos of it. this one is my favorite but i have a few others i want to show you guys, too. =}
yesterday was one of those drizzly, rainy days.. dark skies and moist earth. i love days like that.. and yesterday was no exception. i’ve got some pretty photos coming up, soon!

i have a love affair with cupcakes. they are completely irresistible for me. my mom knows this.. and often buys me beautifully delicious cupcakes from the target bakery. they are SO good. this one was a carmel apple. and it had cinnamon in it somewhere. it was delightful. in all ways cupcakes. what is your favorite little treat from the bakery? or elsewhere?

project 365: day 51

for real.. this is the only photo i took yesterday! someone can spank me. i don’t have any good excuses so i won’t try to muster any up. i didn’t bring my camera with me when i left to spend the day with my mom. spank me again! anyway. this is me at panera bread. one of my favorite places to eat and hang out, btw.
do you see my TOMS shoe drop necklace? it represents the thousands of brand new shoes that TOMS gives away to children who don’t have shoes. for every shoe you buy from TOMS, they donate a brand new pair to a child in need. why shoes? because shoes prevent children from getting diseases and cuts and infections on their feet. in a lot of places, kids aren’t allowed to go to school without shoes. so whenever you purchase a pair of shoes from TOMS for yourself, you’re giving a child a chance at a better life. who knows? they might become the president of their country. or start a humanitarian effort to make a better future for the kids in their country. all because you gave them a pair of shoes. so if you aren’t a TOMS shoe-wearer already, i highly recommend a skip and jump over to their website to check them out. i have two pair and they’re the most comfortable shoes i’ve ever worn. and very practical. oh and did i mention very stylish? TOMS website.

project 365: day 50

when i woke up yesterday morning.. there was still a delicate layer of snow gracing the trees with it’s presence. i was delighted. north carolina is not a big snow state and often if it snows at all it’s gone by the morning. i was really busy and didn’t actually get to do snow pictures, but here’s my one i did get. i love how frosty this snow is. almost prickly. snow delights me. as a child i spent months out of the year playing in the snow. and when it snows.. i feel like a little kid all over again. -beth

project 365: day 49

SNOW!
it snowed here last night for the first time this winter. i couldn’t believe it! i didn’t think we were going to get snow at all this year! it was so beautiful. falling softly against the dark sky. i love snow.

project 365: day 48

i feel all hardcore drinking water out of this canteen. you know. like the studs in the movies wiping the sweat off their brows as they’re trekking across the sahara. i think it makes the water taste better. being in a canteen like that.
water. it’s incredible how our very lives are intwined and dependent on water.
the angle makes this canteen look round. but it’s actually one of those awesome flat ones. yeah i know you’re jealous now.
tip of the day: try drinking a gallon of water a day. its so good for you. it makes you feel very hydrated, too.
