Lets go to the beach!

Finally the blog is back in business! So sorry about the long stretch of silence.. we were having some blog issues over the last month. So now we have lots of catch up to do! At the beginning of last month, John and I got to spend a day at Virginia beach. It was bitter cold and windy, but we had fun wandering around anyway. It had an abandoned feel about it which I’m sure is very rare for that beach.

We stumbled across this adorable vintage looking amusement park. We ate a delicious lunch at this little crabshack on the pier. It was a lovely way to enjoy the waves crashing without the bitter cold.

The beach is always such a treat – even when windy and cold. Hopefully next time will be full of sunshine and warm breezes and we will actually get to wear our swimsuits and get our feet wet. virginia beach

Roadtrip: Chicago!

A couple of weeks ago we took off for a crazy road trip up to Chicago to visit my brother.

Driving late into the night.. there is something about roadtrippin after dark that is so exciting.

Morning dawned rainy and cozy..

COFFEE! We drove through Louisville, KY and some dear friends who used to live there recommended this amazing coffee shop called Sunergos. They roast their own beans! Absolutely delicious.

Reunited with my big brother!

Saturday we went into Chicago and hung out at the most delicious coffee shop in the Ukranian village. They had the most unique drinks ever! Mine was a Mayan mocha with chocolate and cayenne.. and Josh’s had sage and pepper in it! They were absolutely delightful.

Catching up on photos and trips and life…

I fell in love with this mural of Cheshire Cat outside the coffee shop.

We hit up Wicker Park and wandered around the streets bursting with art and color.

We stumbled across this delicious Gyros place. Out of this world.

And an incredible coffee shop called the Worm Hole, filled with fun Star Wars posters, the back to the future car, and ninja turtles to name a few.

Oh and not to mention, ammmmazing coffee.

And no trip to Chicago is complete without the world’s best pizza….

Giordano’s deep dish!! Any pizza after this seems like a whisper… or a ghost. :p

We got to hang out with Josh’s awesome friend Isaac over pizza..

One last coffee with Josh before we hit the road back home..

On the drive home we stopped at this amazing little Mexican place. Yes.. Mexican food is my number one.

And of course we had to hit up Sunergos on the way back too! That place is just too amazing.

It was a crazy, short trip filled with so much fun, love, art and good coffee.

The abandoned part of town

I had a lot of fun walking through downtown in Danville Virginia the other day. I believe it used to be a tobacco factory.
Most of these photos are HDRs. Merged in HDR Effects Pro and edited in lightroom.

Since fall crept into the mountains…

My family drove up to Linville Gorge Wilderness to breath in the beauty of Fall. We could not have timed it more perfectly on purpose bursting onto the scene as the leaves were at the peak of their spectacular beauty. We climbed up the Hawksbill trail and broke out of the trees onto a sea, rippling and flowing with vibrant reds, yellows, oranges and so forth. If you stood on the top and did a complete 360, you would lose your breath at the magnitude of color lying beneath you. (PS. John did a 360 panorama from the top, let’s see if we can get him to do a blogpost. )
Of all the many, many things I miss about the Rocky Mountains, there’s nothing quite like an Appalachian Fall…

BEACH! Part 2

Part 2 of the beach trip was a little delayed, I’m sorry. I had a few (pleasant) unexpected things come up and didn’t have time to get these photos up on the blog to you as soon as I had wanted to! But here they finally are.

There’s something about sunrise that has a touch of magic in it. The color, the light, slowing appearing out of no where and chasing away the darkness.. creating a masterpiece over the water..

It makes your soul burst.. it makes you dance. It makes you worship the Painter.

Of course we had to get a TOMS picture in.. For every pair of TOMS shoes you buy, they give a brand new pair to a child in need.
