The moments that count.

I’ve been doing a lot of thinking the last few days. About life. Relationships. The differences between perfect online friends and real messed up people. Don’t freak out that this is an anti-social media blurb. It’s not. I love social media. You can connect instantly with people you love all over the world. I can see pictures of my international friend’s babies within minutes of their births. It’s a gift that has connected us to the world.

But I think there’s a catch. It’s so easy to instead of being in the moment you are in, enjoying the people you are with, to constantly be in the other world. How many times do we take a photo just to post it online? Or as soon as we get to a restaurant with buddies we have to “check-in” so all of our online friends can see that we are having a great time? What about actually having a great time? We spend so much of our time, energy and love creating this perfect life of ours online, where we can be whoever we want to be. We can be shallow, fake, perfect. No one on there has to know about our hurts, has to know about the stupid things we said, the embarrassing things we did. What if instead we stopped and set down the phone, looked into the eyes of the people we are with and focused on them? Their pains, problems, hurts, joys, loves, interests, passions..

Because the last time I checked, real, raw, messed up people are better than fake, shallow, online people any day.

So close, yet so far away.

I love details.. I love the tiny lines, the tiny specks, the intense color. Things you have to look at really closely to notice.. beauty waiting to be seen. To stop and take that second look, to study a little more closely. I think God loves detail.. I think he makes it so that we don’t just pass by and glance at his creation but actually stop for a moment to really look at it. To really enjoy it. If you’re not looking for it, you’ll miss it. If you’re focused on things you need to do, places to go, problems weighing you down and just glance at the world around you.. you won’t see it. I think he wants us to search it out. To seek it. And that’s why he hides it. He wants us to take the focus off of ourselves and problems and such, and focus on beauty.. His creation.. singing it’s praises to their Maker.

Birthday, cupcakes, tulips and… a parrot?

My birthday was on the 10th, and my family loves birthdays. We seriously do. It’s an event, a celebration.. time to be together and have fun.. do things we don’t normally do. My family really went all out for me and it made me feel so loved.
They know how much I adore cupcakes.. so that was the theme. And spring. Tulips.. hyacinths. :)

The name places were real tulips in miniature pots. The “dirt” was chocolate bunches. I probably ate a 1/4 of my dirt before dessert.

We played Yahtzee. I got second! And I never even got a yahtzee. And here’s where the Parrot comes in. See him on my dad’s back? His name is Tarzan.

He’s not very smart. He dances though. Makes you laugh like a fool cuz it looks so funny and cute. He’s a show off.
Like I said, they know my love for cupcakes. Check out the wrapping paper! Its just edible. :)

My cake. My littlest sister made it.. isn’t is beautiful?

All these pictures are iPhone.. as I forgot my camera at home. I’m starting to realize I do that a lot. =/ Anyway.. I had such a wonderful party with my amazing family.. I hope you all are blessed to have a family who loves you like mine does me.
Keep calm and have a cupcake!

The ancient skies above..

Sing to God, you kingdoms of the earth,
sing praise to the Lord,
to him who rides the ancient skies above,
who thunders with mighty voice.
Proclaim the power of God,
whose majesty is over Israel,
whose power is in the skies.
Psalm 68:32-34 TNIV

One Day Without Shoes

Yesterday, I joined thousands of people around the world and walked around barefoot. So that kids don’t have to.

Why?

Kids all over the world don’t have shoes. They can’t afford them, can’t access them, there’s a variety of reasons. Shoes protect these kids from getting cuts and injuries, from transmitting hookworm and other foot diseases, and last but so important, many children are not allowed to go to school without shoes. That’s why I’ve joined up with TOMS shoe company, where for every pair you purchase, they give one to a child in need. They team up with the local schools and organizations in the countries where they work, and hand place the shoes on the children’s feet. It’s life changing.

Join us next year for One Day Without Shoes by signing up HERE. Be sure to check out TOMS shoes! Not only do they serve an incredible purpose, but they are stylish and also the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever worn. And no, they are not paying me to say this, I swear. I’m saying this simply because I truly believe that it’s a great cause. Because I want my fashion to reflect the heart of God, the reaching out and touching his children for Him.. and giving them a better life. -beth

Give a gift. Change a life.

Today is my birthday! And this year I’m asking for something a little different. Instead of presents, I’m asking for gifts for the children around the world through my gift catalog with World Vision. There’s a large variety of gifts to choose from: a goat, medicine, school books, fruit trees, clean water, a soccer ball… and the list goes on. If you feel lead to give towards my birthday catalog, please click HERE. Even if you don’t feel like this is the time or place for you to give personally, I have a request. Please share my gift catalog with your family and friends via Facebook, twitter, email, reblogging this or any other social media outlets. The more people who known about it, the more people who get a chance to give! This gifts are literally life changing and not just for the child who receives the gift, but for the whole community as well. It’s life changing for the giver, too.

“And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.” Matthew 25:40

Easter eggs, fluffy baby chicks and the Easter bunny.

Our life group had an easter egg hunt and party last week. It was a lot of fun, and the kids loved it. The excitement as they dashed around picking up eggs was enough to make you laugh.. it was so cute.

And the hunt begins!

After all the eggs were picked up and deposited in their darling little baskets, they took turns holding the cutest little chicks.

The guys took a liking to the chicks too. :)

Then the discovering of treasures inside of the eggs; chocolate, candy, bracelets and other little delights.

And last but not least.. the Easter bunny!

I think Baby wanted to eat the bunny…

I hope you all had a wonderful Easter!
And then that darkest of nights, and the fiend we call DEATH were powerless.
And my Beloved…
AROSE.

Raindrops on Roses – er- Spiderwebs…

It rained during the night. And I woke up to a world covered in mist and raindrops. It was foggy and cool and you could feel the moisture in the air. And then I saw all these shimmering jewels in the grass. I ran over and there were all these little tiny spiderwebs covered in shining raindrops. It took my breath away.

I love rain. It’s refreshing. I love how the world smells after a rain. In fact, that is my favorite smell in the world. I love walking in the rain. I think it reminds me of God. Like little kisses falling down from heaven onto me. Little gems of beauty. The cleansing, the fresh air, the nourished earth – it all reminds me of what God does in my soul.

How seldom we celebrate WATER.

Happy World Water Day! How often do you stop and celebrate water? We use water endlessly. In our showers, coffee, washing dishes and laundry, cleaning our cars, and on and on. How often do you stop and appreciate that water is always at the reach of your hands, clean, uncontaminated, limitless water? I know I don’t often enough. I take it for granted. All my life it always was there. Always will be. But for over a billion people around the world, this is not a reality. People walk hours every day to retrieve water from ponds or water holes that are contaminated and seething with disease. They die from contaminated water. They lose hours every day fetching the water, hours that could be spent getting an education, or providing for their family.

Did you know that it take over 32 gallons of water to produce one egg? 256 gallons to produce one hamburger? 306 gallons to produce a bag of M’n'M’s? We don’t even realize how much water we indirectly consume every day… and where we would be if we were like the billion people in the world without it.

But there is hope. We can make a difference. We can provide clean water to our family around the world. It’s within our grasp to make a dent in the water crisis. Watch the video below to see how you can help.

Make a difference. Provide clean water. And thank God every day for the beautiful, fresh water dripping from your tap.
